Lawn Darts

Lawn darts is a great activity for those who can safely and responsibly play the game.  The reason you need to be careful is because it's not as safe as playing cornhole where the equipment is a soft set of Bags and a set of Boards.  This is a great backyard game that is played with a set of lawn darts, which come is sets of four and usually two plastic rings that are placed on the ground.  Similar to horseshoes the object of the game is to throw the lawn darts underhand toward the plastic rings with the goal of landing the lawn dart anywhere within the ring.  The rings are placed across from one another and each opponent has a turn underhand tossing their darts toward the ring while the other opponent moves out of the way until his turn is taken.  The game can also be played with one plastic ring and the players can take turns using all their darts, or take turns using different colored darts in order to keep score adequately.

Lawn darts are typically sold at many game and department stores and are about 12 inches long with a metal weighted tip that lands down sticking into the ground.  A point is scored for each dart that is landed with in the plastic ring and the game is generally played up to a pre-chosen amount of points. The lawn darts themselves usually have three or four plastic fins on the rear of each dart that helps with the flight of the toss.

While lawn darts or also commonly known as yard darts is a generally safe game the sale of lawn darts has been banned in the United States due to the misuse of the darts and the deaths of four children resulting from that misuse.  If the darts are used in the appropriate way the game is generally without incident and these unfortunate happenings were due to irresponsibility and misuse.  You can still purchase lawn darts in the United Kingdom and in many other areas around the world.
