Washers Game

The game of washers is a game very close to horseshoes in theory.  It is a game of pitching and accuracy that can be easily understood by most and played by many.  As far as backyard games go washers is a fun and relaxing way to spend an afternoon with your family and friends with relatively easy set up and clean up.  A great benefit too is that a washer sets, like cornhole, are relatively easy to make yourself with just a little bit of time and effort.

The game of washers can be played in several different ways. One is with two boxes at each end with one cup at the middle. In this type of washers is played with two boxes set approximately 21 feet apart from one another however you can place the boxes wherever you please if you are accommodating children or others that may need closer ranges for pitching.  Washers are used to pitch into the boxes which are usually a square 20 x 20 inches.  Inside each box is a cup at the middle or a circle if the washer lands in the box but not in the cup or circle area the participant earns one point.  If the washer lands on the line or side of the cup the person tossing it gets three points and in the cup or circle earns the participant five points.

The second way to play washers is again with two sets of wooden boards but with three holes cut in them vertically.  The same type of scoring is applied except that the closest hole is one point, middle is three points and the furthest is five points.

The game of washers or pitching washers can be played as a one on one game or in 2 groups for team play.  It is a great game for your backyard events for several reasons.  The first is easy set up and clean up; there are not big nets to hang and no damage to your yard when playing washers.  Another reason this is a popular game is it is made for all to enjoy and can become a fun family tradition for get together.  The equipment can be made yourself or purchased inexpensively at many department and game oriented stores.
